Cannot get 'Sync Status' menu item re-enabled

PROBLEM: I cannot get the Notebook Sync Status command re-enabled.

If I move the 'Sync Status' command to the toolbar and hover, I get a
tooltip "OneNote is currently disconnected from remote notebooks and is
working offline"

I use OneNote with files hosted on SharePoint

Syncing *does* work if I choose 'Sync this notebook' or all notebooks. I can
see the files updated on SharePoint. So this is just an annoyance that I
cannot get the Sync Status window back.

I have tried closing the notebook and re-opening.

I have tried toggling File->Sync->Work Offline but this does not help either

I have tried rebooting.
I have tried closing all notebooks and re-opening.
I have tried closing all notebooks and deleting the OneNote cachefile.

Anyone ever seen this problem before? I have a screenshot here:

Just to confirm: does the sync actually work (ie, is it just the button
that is showing incorrect state, or are you notebooks not syncing unless
you manually trigger sync)? If it is just the button, that is
unfortunately a consequence of having it update to reflect the sync
state - if OneNote exits while offline and there are multiple sync
buttons present, it will incorrectly save the state of the button and
break the update mechanism (so the button will show the state as it was
when you shut down OneNote and it broke). The fix is to remove the extra
sync buttons and reset the standard toolbar (click the little down arrow
at the end of a toolbar, select "add/remove buttons", select "standard",
and select "Reset toolbar").

I am wondering though, why do you want the button on the main menu? Is
it so you can see the state of your notebooks? Did you notice the sync
overlay icons on the notebook bar on the left? Is it because you want to
have easy access to the sync dialog? What information/tools are in there
that you find yourself accessing often? Something else?

Thank you so much Ilya! You solved my problem.

Yes, the problem was only that I could not access the Sync Status dialog. My
syncs were continuing successfully behind the scenes. I was able to fix it by
resetting both the standard toolbar and the Menu Bar.

I actually had not noticed the sync overlay on the notebook sidebar. However
that overlay does not let me access the Sync Status dialog. The reason I put
that button on the main menu was because I frequently access that dialog
since I don't let auto-sync happen. I prefer to sync when I choose.

Now that I reset the standard toolbar, I just noticed that there is a "View
Sync Status and Settings" toolbar command between the Microphone icon and the
View Magnification dropdown. I just missed it before. So I guess I will just
use that from now on and avoid the toolbar bug.

Thanks again
Craig
