Sync with One Note Mobile - Using Exchange

I am using Active Sync to sync my e-mail / contacts / calendar to my Motorola
Q via Exchange Server. Their is no option to sync OneNote this way.

How should I set up my OneNote syncing?

Hi,

I use OneNote 2007 b2 on my Dell XPS desktop and on my Motion LE1600 Tablet
PC. I have reinstall XP Pro on my tablet, along with the latest updates &
drivers. I have reinstalled OneNote and it loads fine. The problem is
that, although it tries, it can't open any notebooks that are located on
another machine. I have no other issues or problems accessing other
information over the network, and nothing else has changed since it was
working previous to the XP reinstall. When I try to open a notebook located
on another machine, the tab shows, but all I get in the main window is text
saying "Loading... Please wait". Of course, it never actually loads the
notebook.

I can open and use notebooks that are on the LE1600 local drive.

Is there something that I should configure of check since the XP reinstall?

Hi Bob,

Can you open the network share that contains the .one files in Windows
Explorer? If yes, can you copy one of the .one files from there to your
hard drive? If that works, you definitely have ruled out any issues with
Windows.
How about deleting the local cache file and trying again? Any luck then?

yes & No...

I can open a remote .one file using Windows Explorer. However, after I copy
it to a local notebook, I have a problem. When I try to open the local
notebook, I just get the "Loading... please wait" message. I can see all the
section tabs, but they are all gray. I can't see any data or pages.

OK, I found & deleted the local cache file.

This seems to help. I can open remote notebooks now. It doesn't seem to
want to find grouped sections within a particular notebook, however.

OK, now I can open everything, so I guess deleteing the local cache file
fixed the issue.

By design, OneNote Mobile only works through local ActiveSync.

OneNote data is not stored on or processed by Exchange. Your OneNote notes
could be on your PC's local hard drive, on a SharePoint server or other
file server - none of those machines would normally be connected to the
Internet in the same way that an Exchange FE server would be.

If ONM is installed, it should appear in ActiveSync under your local PC
connection.

clear the whole of what is in the local cache of the "client" machine
an a regular basis just for maintenance.
I also gelete all of was in the local "Onenote-Notebooks" directory in
"My Documents" just to make sure not carry around any duplicates.

I would caution that you have to make 100% sure that all changes are
synced into .one files before deleting the cache. This mainly applies to
notebooks that are not local to the computer.
OneNote actually has a dialog with a "delete local cache" button. The
only way to get it to display though is to kill OneNote while it is
loading. Then it shows next time you load it. In the next beta release,
there'll be a command line switch to get it to display.

I should also point out that deleting the cache will make OneNote think
that your notes haven't been indexed either, and it will restart
indexing from scratch after the cache is rebuilt.
In general, deleting the cache is a pretty heavy-handed operation as far
as OneNote is concerned, so unless things are going wrong and you have
reason to believe that deleting the cache will fix it, you're probably
better off leaving the cache as it is.

What do you mean by "local to the computer"?
A notebook "on the road" on which one has been working without having
been re-connected and synched?
I did not have in mind to delete the cache without a due process of
synching.
OneNote actually has a dialog with a "delete local cache"

Interesting. Did not yet come across this.
The only way to get it to display though is to kill
OneNote while it is loading.

But was not successful in killing ;-)

as it is.

I had a problem of this sort the other day.
After heavy re-structing one of the notebooks (grouping sections and
moving the sections into the groups) the changes were not synched over
to my tablet.
After having deleted the cache on the tablet and re-opened the
notebooks sitting on the desktop, everything was fine agin.
Seems taht this was one thes extraordinary cases.

Thanks again for the warnings. Seems that the wording in my posting
was a bit too happy go lucky.

Meaning the .one file is stored on a hard drive of that computer. ON
still caches a local file in its big cache, but this happens
instantaneously, so there is no need to worry about syncing the cache
with the .one file.
I did not have in mind to delete the cache without a due process of
synching.
I wasn't worried about you doing that. I was worried about someone else
reading your post and doing this without syncing first ;)

When reading Ilya's reply I immediately thought that my posting might
perhaps have been a bit too careless with respect to some lurkers and
I thought about deleting it. But this does not work in this place
:-( :-(

Did anyone reply that your OneNote notes are not synced using Exchange and
they are only done on the desktop via Active Sync.
