"System cannot find file specified"

Outlook 2002/Word 2002 attachment problem
Doing what: Opening Word document attachments from an
email with Word closed. The attachments usually have
never been opened on the machine before.
What happens: Word launches and toolbars load. Document
does not open. Switching programs to Outlook reveals the
error message.
Error message: "The system cannot find the file
specified."

The documents always open on the second attempt. The
error does not occur with every Word attachment and I'm
having a hard time recreating the problem.
I've tried deleting the DOC file association and
recreating it with winword /r, but the error still comes
up.
