Tab indentation no longer works

T

T. Smith

I have outline styles set up in my normal template so that I Indent as follows:

1. ADFSDF
a. ASDFSDF
i) ASDFASDFSD

The styles work fine and I can switch from one level to another by clicking
on the INCREASE INDENT or DECREASE iNDENT buttons in my tool bar or changing
the style from Outline Level 1 to Outline Level 2, etc. I used to be able to
switch indent levels by hitting the TAB key to indent or SHIFT TAB key to
decrease indent but this no longer works. I have searched in the TOOLS,
OPTIONS but can't find any setting which applies. I have even tried to use
an older version of Normal.dot, but that didn't work either. Does anybody
know how to get this capability back?

Please always specify the version of Word you are using. In this case it
makes a difference.

Word 2000 or earlier: On the Edit tab of Tools | Options, check the box for
"Tabs and backspace set left indent."

Word 2002 or 2003: On the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools | AutoCorrect
Options, check the box for "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and
backspaces."

Thanks so much for posting this! We've been annoyed by our tab-indenting not
working! What a hassle you've solved.
