Tab not working correctly

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel I have an iMac that is running Office 2004, in a guest account, the TAB key doesn't go to the default tabs of .5 inches. In any other account it works correctly. Somebody must have found a setting in word that has changed the settings for tabs. For the life of me I have looked and cannot determine where or which one they have changed. I have looked under format, preferences, etc.
Anyone have any ideas. Thanks in advance.Don

Well, what *does* happen when you press the Tab key? It's also a good idea
to specify the update level of Office & OS X whenever you post... That can
often make a difference.

Without any additional details the only guesses I can offer are that someone
has either modified the Normal template (which new documents are based on),
that Word has been set to use a different global template, or that the
Normal template is damaged/corrupt.

Since this is a Guest account one solution is to create a new Guest account
& delete the one having the problem.

Another option -- assuming there are no customizations of Word to be
concerned about -- is to follow the directions here for testing/replacing
that account's Normal template: http://word.mvps.org/mac/MacWordNormal.html

Third, you can open the Normal template while in that user account & reset
the default tab stops in Format> Tabs.

It's also possible that a style which has the differing tab stops specified
has been set as the default paragraph style. Have a look in Word>
Preferences> Edit to confirm that Normal is indicated as the default.
