Table of Contents with no page number

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have a cover page and a table of contents, then my text. I want the beginning of the text (page 3) to be numbered as page 1, not the table of contents. I chose the first page to be "0" but that only takes care of the cover page, not the table of contents. Help!

thank you!

First you need to remove all page numbers.

Then just at the end of of your Table of contents you need a section break. Then add page numbers in this section.

As long as you don't convert to PDF you'll be okay.

Additional to Phillip's suggestion, clear the check in the Formatting
Palette - Header & Footer for 'Link to previous' before you insert the Page
Numbers in the Section 2 Footer.

Great... I'm halfway there... How do you not number the first section? I followed the instructions and I was able to number the pages I want numbered, but there are now 2 sections independently numbered. So... what's next? Thanks so much!

Start over remove the section break and remove the page numbers then do
as previously said to uncheck for section breaks - link previous sections.

then move to the section you want to start your numbers. insert the
page number field and your all set.

Oh my gosh THANK YOU! I had to figure out the details of finding the header/footer specs and turning off both header AND footer... but it worked! Thank you so much!
