Table of Contents

I am currently working on a word document report.

We traditionally used the Exhibit Option; but had to manually update the
Exhibit numbers.. that generally run into 100s and require a day to update.

I came across the \autonum function and this issue was solved since the
Exhibit numbers are automatically updated! However, now the Exhibit headers
aren't identified as Exhibits anymore and I cannot create a Table of
Exhibits.

Please HELP!

Rather than dumping your totally unrelated issue into a thread that's
already gone in several different directions it would be best if you submit
a NEW message. Responders often don't revisit conversations in which they
haven't participated or *have* participated but have been resolved.

Include all pertinent details including which version of Word you're using
as well as exactly what you mean by "Exhibit Option" -- there is no feature
by that name in Word itself. My first impression is that you're referring to
Captions inserted using custom labels but if so there would be no need for
the manual updating you mention.

I'm sure there is plenty of help available but the issue needs to be
expressed more explicitly.

a. You could have updated all the caption numbers (they are SEQ fields) by
switching to print preview and back to page layout view. In W2003 switching
to normal view and back also works.

b. For your current situation, use a styles-based TOF. In the Table of
figures dialog box, click Options. then put a check in the box before "Style:
" then select the (must be unique) style used for your exhibit captions.

Yes, use a cross-reference. In Word 2007, this is References | Captions |
Cross-reference. Cross-references don't update entirely automatically but
will update when other fields are updated (when you switch to Print Preview
or print, or when you Ctrl+A, F9).
