Table rows automatically page breaking

B

Barry

I have seen posts that address this situation but I have tried the
solutions and this time they are not working for me….

I am working with Word 97. I created a table with some lengthy cells
that run over a page and they are running continuously to the next
page. That’s what I want.

Now, I copied the table to another document and they are (page)
breaking when they run longer than the page. I want the same results
that I had in the original document, continuous table flowing.

I have even tried creating a new table in the (copy to) document but I
continue to get page breaks on long rows.

I have tried setting the “Allow row to break across pages”, the “Keep
with next” and everything (I think) that has been mentioned on this
board without getting the results I want.

Is there some “master” table parameter controlling my “copy to
document?

I'm not clear from your description whether you want the rows to break or
not. In any case, the "Allow rows to break" is an all or nothing setting. If
you let Word break the rows, you're giving it carte blanche to break it
wherever it wants; "Keep with next," "Keep lines together," and even
"Widow/orphan control" have no effect within a table row (though "Keep with
next" can be used between table rows). If what you're saying is that you
want the entire table to stay together, see

In my original document the table is breaking whenever there’s a
physical page break regardless of if it’s at the end of a table row or
not. That is what I want the new (copied) version to do also. As I
mentioned, the table is large and page breaking for rows that run over
to the next page will be costly if the document is printed.

The table was an intermediate document and when I copied the table into
my final document the characteristics changed. The (copied) version
page breaks on rows if Word thinks it’s going to run over to the next
page.

When a row is longer than a page Word keeps it on a single page and it
runs past (and over) my footers, page numbers, etc. and I can’t even
view the bottom portion of the row when I know there’s more text in the
row further down. I even created a new table in the final document only
to have the same thing happen.

I tried the solution you posted since I saw it in earlier problems of
this type. It didn’t work for this document. Do you have any other
suggestions?

It sounds as if your table may have become "wrapped." Go to the Table tab of
Table Properties and make sure that wrapping is set to None. Then select the
entire table and, on the Row tab, make sure that "Allow row to break over
pages" is checked.
