Tabs v Margins on the slide rule

A simple way to change the margins for a selected area was to slide the
margin icons on the top ruler. This is also the way to set tabs. My
frustration with Word '03, is that the margin icons aren't sliding, I keep
setting tabs. Persistance will prevail, but I don't always have the time or
the patience.

How about allowing us to hold the shift key while the mouse moves the margin
indicator? I presume the tabs are more frequently set, that could remain a
click on the ruler...
