Task started now needs to be canceled

Have 2 tasks that are 45% complete have money aginst them and now have been
canceled. I know that I can split the task at the date they were canceled
and the task will keep marching on without addtional cost. Problem is that
it still shows up at a hit on EVM. Is there any way that I can stop the task
remove the remaining work but keep the current % complete an money spent?

Problem with this process is that the cost that is associated with this task
then equals actual cost which is not true. Also by zeroing the Remaining
Work causes the % Complete to goto 100% which is also not true.

If the task only spent $1000 of $2000 and was canceled then you would thing
that removing the remaining work would be the best way but as stated above it
has many more complications.

Thanks for the response. Hope this adds some clarity to the problem.

Remaing Work = Remaining Duration = 0. You take 100% of the duration you
actually completed. There's really more to it than that, but if you are using
%Complete as your EV method then this is the solution.

With this being true. There is no way accept to fat finger in the actual cost
expended since MS Project will automatically make cost = the 100% allocation
even if this did not occur. Thanks for the post. Will try this method and
research.

Hi Rob

In your example Remaining duration and remaining work for this activity
should be zero and give data of actual % complete in 'physical % complete'
column. Ignore 100% coming in '% complete column'. For EVM calculations also
select 'physical % complete' through Tools > options > calculations

To give Actual cost of this activity yourself and not let MS project do it
automatically remove this option from Tools > options > calculations itself.

I hope it helps.
