task updates problem

Hi all:
From time to time I got the task updates problem in my plans.

In our project team, we use both the timesheets and the task updates. The
engineer will first input their hours in timesheets and then from "my task",
they import the timesheet to task updates and then submit both timesheets and
task updates to the project manager to approve.

Most of the time it works just fine. But from time to time, the import of
timesheet hours doesn't work. After importing, the hours of some tasks are
not really imported. 90% of time it could be solved by deleting the timesheet
and start all over again. But some extreme cases, even deleting timesheet
doesn't works. In this case, the project managers have create the new tasks
for booking.

Does anyone experience the similar issue as we do? Does anyone know if it is
a known issue and if there is any way to solve it?

Thanks
Rock

Hi rock,

Yes i have experienced this in the past as well. Firstly I would check any
event log errors or Queue errors ( standard check :) ) Then I would ensure
that you have SP1 and Infrastrucutre update installed on the server and each
client for MS proejct pro.

I genreally recommend entereing tasks updates first and then entering your
timesheet, because when you update your task update, this figure will
automatically be displayed in the timesheet (unlike the other way around),
avoiding the import functionality. This can resolve your issue.

Hope this helps

Hi:
Thanks for your answer. We do have SP1 installed on the server and all the
client. But we didn't upgrade the infrastructure yet. Could that solve the
issue?

Entering the task updates in my task is not an option for us. The UI of the
timesheet is much better. Engineers don't like enter timesheet normally. It
is already difficult to push them in the better UI like the timesheet view. I
don't even dare to try the my task approach. And we cannot enter
administrative time in my task view, which is also a reason stop us using my
task to enter hours.

Thanks

Hi Rock,

The infrastructure update may resolve some of the issue you have, I cant say
with certainty that it does.

Did you know that you can change your "My Task" to look similar than the
timesheet? That functionality is event better with the infrastructure update,
but I also hear what you say. Only because the technology is not up to it,
doesnt mean tht you need to change your business process.

Either way, I would probably test the infrastructure update in your test
environment to see wheter it resolves some of your issues

Hope this helps

Hi:
How to set the My Task the similar view as TimeSheet? I am quite interested
in it.

Cheers
