TCP/IP Error Message

I am running Outlook 2000 and all of a sudden am getting an error message
that the TCP/IP is being terminated by my mail server???

I am still able to receive but unable to send. I am running Norton Antio
virus and have swithced off the outgoing scan, but to no avail?

I have seen some of the other message re similar probs, but am still stuck.
As far as I am aware smtp servers have not changed??

1 thing I am not sure how to do is ping in the command prompt, I am unable
to get a blank line to type the ping line??

Hi LondonLori,
if you want to ping to the server,
you can do it by this way,
start > run > cmd
now you can write ping /?
there you get all distructions about ping instructions.
But don´t think, that this draw you near the problem.
Could you post the original error message?
I would try to reinstall TCP/IP first
