Tell a friend icon

greg

I manage a site with FP2000. I was asked to add icons that would implement
the following:

1. "Tell a friend" - oppening a form with details like addresses and content
of the message.

2. "Tell all friends" that would send a message to the whole list of the
address book of the user.

Does anyone knows how to implement that?

Thanks in advance

Greg

1. A form is used to send data to a specific email address, or to a file on a server.
Do you mean you want to open an email with some info already filled in??

2. No. it would set off every virus / firewall alarm in existence.

This requires some hefty scripting to develop the entire solution. It can be
done and without setting off any firewall or other alarms noting I have no
idea why Steve Easton wants to scare you with crazy talk. Its not sending
out large numbers of e-mail that is the problem. Its trying to lie about who
and where the mail is from and using relay that has been the problem.

I used ASP to write an 'e-mail a friend' type of application called
'Promotion Pals' for a customer that never put it into production because
they switched to ASP.NET and did not want to pay me to rewrite without
compensation. The point is my software functioned and did so without
imposition with regard to spam so it can be done but it does require a
significant effort to script to implement as an actual solution.

Ok Clinton, tell you what.
When you can create a "Web Page" script that will open the email client on my computer and then fire
an email to every listing in my address book, please post it here.
This I have to see.

You can pre-populate the Send To address via a mailto: link but you can't open the address book on a
client machine.

I humbly suggest you go back and re-read the original question.

The only aspect of the OP discussion was the mention of the 'address book of
the user' implying desired access to the desktop. IMO simply talking crazy
about firewalls and viruses does nothing for a neophyte unless such talk is
put into context which you failed to do in the slighhtest.

Given the choice to work with the right consultant the OP could achieve that
objective.

There are social networks developing where many users actually volunteer to
make their address books available. So providing access to an address book
on the desktop is a matter of how it is done that warrants a discussion --
not scary talk about firewalls and viruses.

Key Words = Web Site.

1. I don't care if you work with the Left consultant, you are not going to launch wab.exe from a
html page in a browser,
nor are you going to launch msimn.exe and have it populate the To: field with the contents of the
address book.
Which by the way lives "behind" a %UserProfile%

2. Why would you want to??

3. What has the Desktop got to do with this thread??

Ok, there exist a program that allows you to invite friends you may or
may not have in your address book to join an online community.
What does that have to do with the original wish to have a button that
would send the link of the current homepage to all people in the users
address book?
Just because you can do the first doesn't make the second more possible.
It is still as impossible as ever.
I suggest that you misunderstood what was asked or simply hasn't checked
what friendster does.
