Templates error

My client is using templates that are stored on the server. Upon creating a
new document from the template and trying to save it as a new document the
following error appears:

When I go to close Word.....
"The file is in use by another application or user. (S:\JOHN\Master
Templates\Normal.dot)"

I click on "OK" - the only choice, and it prompts me to save the file.... it
directs me to S:\JOHN\Master Templates.

I click on cancel and try to close word again and get the following
message....
"Changes have been made that affect the global template Normal.dot. Do you
want to save those changes?"

I click "no" and Word then closes on its own.

I'm not familiar with using templates. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated?

THank you.

Close your apps and then search your hard drive for crashed TEMP files
by searching for ~*.tmp. You can delete any you find. The problem is
that Word has crashed and is holding a temp version of the original
doc in memory and THINKS that the file is still in use. You need to
locate and delete that file.
