Terrible performance - comparison

This question relates to one that I posted yesterday.

My company used to run an Access 2000 database for orders and scheduling
that I wrote. It was split into front and back ends. The users had the
front ends on their desktops and the backend was on an Access 2000 server.
I used to have 3-5 users in the database working in the exact same tables at
the same time with no data corruption or performance issuses. The only
reason we changed was we grew to the point of needing to integrate
everything into one app and I don't do accounting apps (joke).

Now we have this commercial MRP package which is Access based. It is also
split. We had to upgrade all user desktops to P3/P4's and XP Pro to run it.
We also have data corruption and performance issues - especially if I try to
link a custom Access app to the tables in this MRP package. But everything
is Microsoft Access based - using the Jet engine.

QUESTION: Why is there such a problem? Any ideas why when I try to link my
app to the MRP tables there is 1-3 minutes relinking times. Rather simple
queries take up to 60 seconds to run on the linked tables while if I create
my own copy of the table (still on the same server) and link to it - the
query takes about 3-5 seconds to run. Any one have any ideas why there are
such horrid performance issues?

Your thoughts/insights are always appreciated.

Alan
