Text created within an Equation Object won't print properly

I have many PowerPoint presentations I have created over the last few
years. I opened one up the other day that I needed to print new
hand-out masters for. I set it up to print in the Grayscal mode as I
always do, because that makes the best masters for reproducing copies
from. However, all the text in the math Equation objects on all the
slides would not print properly. Each letter or number came out looking
like a small black rectangle. I was printing to a HP Laserjet 1300.
What was odd is that it would print fine in the color mode, but the
color mode does not produce dark enough good masters for photo copy
duplication. This combination has printed perfectly in months past, but
not now.

This happened on both a Power Book G4 and an iBook with all the latest
Tiger updates and PowerPoint updates. To date, I am unable to find out
why the problem.

Would appreciate feed-back from anyone with similar experience.

Thanks,

B

Were the Equation objects created with MathType or the Equation Editor built
in to Office?

Hi,

Select the troublesome Equation object then control-click (or
right-click) and use the grayscale settings. Sometimes a different
setting is all it takes to fix printing issues in grayscale.

When you are using the grayscale button and grayscale options PowerPoint
provides a representation of the objects in grayscale that is used for
display in normal view and printing, but it does not affect the
underlying objects so they will print normally when grayscale mode is
turned off. They will also display in normal color when the slide show
is run even if the grayscale mode button is clicked.

I forgot to mention that I am building a grayscale toolbar for printing
and working in grayscale. The Mac verison is done, but the Windows
version will be a little bit since oddly the Windows version of VBA
isn't as good as the Mac one for this.

If you want a beta copy for the Mac send me an email (hint: warmer than
warm is Hot).
