Hi,

I have a csv file with values like "01-03-01", and when i
open this file in Excel this value is automatically
converted into Date format. How to avoid this?.

i want the text to just displayed as "01-03-01" when the
file is opened in excel without getting converted!. is
there a way to do this?

thanks,
Shiv

Hi Shiv,
Are u importing thru excel interface or programmatically? Thru Excel
if u use
Data->Import External Data->Import Data and then select the CSV file
and follow the steps, u can modify the data type of the desired column
from MDY to Text.

If programmatically, then to the opentext method you can give in
FieldInfo, array specifying the data types of columns.

Hope this helps.

Mahesh

Change the name of the file to a txt file.
Then open the file and the open text files Wizard will be
openned
then you select delimited by
select comma as the delimiter
then you select the column with your data and select TEXT

your data will not be converted to date

No, i am not doing it programatically. I just generate the CSV file and
my customers need to view that file merely by double clicking the file
without going thro any wizards!.

is there a way of having default excel template which will not convert
the data into date format?

thanks,
Shiv
