I am taking notes for a class in outline format. Every time a go to add a new line the text is automatically bold font. It is very annoying to have to turn this off every time I enter a new line of text. Any ideas?

Are you in Notebook Layout view?

Try these steps:

1. Switch to Print Layout view (the fourth icon from the left on the bottom left-hand corner of the Word application window).

2. Show the Formatting Palette using View - Formatting Palette, if it isn't already displayed.

3. In the Styles section of the Formatting Palette, find the Note Level 1 style, hover your mouse over it until the blue disclosure triangle appears, click on the triangle and select Modify Style.

4. In the Modify Style dialog, make sure that the B icon (boldface) is not highlighted. If it is, unselect it, add a checkmark to the "Add to template" option, and then click OK.

Also, try the same routine, but this time with the Normal style.

You could also simply try selecting all of your text and typing Command-B until the boldface disappears. It could be that you accidentally toggled boldface at some point in time.

Hope this helps...

Jeff

If you're in Outline View, that's how it works :) Content is automatically
formatted based on the Heading Styles 1-9, plus Body Text Style.

For note taking you might investigate the use of Notebook Layout View.
