Text & Numbers in Cell

I want to do a subtraction from one cell to another: For
example (STA 10 + 451.23) - (Sta 9 + 231.12) this =
12220.110. Excel will not due the subtraction because
their our text in the cell. Is their away to manipulate
the format?

One way -- put your labels (sta 10 STA 9) in a seperate cell than the number
