Text style reverts on save

I am using Publisher 2003 SP2. I have a document that has a few text styles
I have defined. When I modify a style the document appearsw properly, but
when I save the file, close Publisher, and re-open Publisher the changes are
lost. If I delete the misbehaving style and re-create it all is well, except
that the change to another style vanishes. help!
