TEXTBOXES CAUSE WORD TO FREEZE

Word freezes whenever opening a document with a textbox or autoshape, or when
trying to use one in a new document. It is necessary to restart the computer.
The same happens when trying to open or create a publication in Publisher.
How do I solve the problem?
