Thanks but how to undo Master Document codes?

M

Mark

Thanks very much for the information. The recovery
features seems very fussy and complicated, and still
keeps each subdocument file as part of a master file. Is
there a way to eliminate the master file linkages for
each subdocument without cutting and pasting it as
unformatted text? Is there any way to do this, or is the
article saying that there is no way to do this and that I
am stuck with the master document code?

You really need to reply to the previous message for people to make sense of
what you are asking. I may have already sent this to you, but don't know
that.

"Master Document" is a term of art in Word referring to a "feature" that not
only doesn't work but also destroys documents. The consensus (with the
limited exception of Steve Hudson) among those offering advice on these
newsgroups is that using the Master Document feature is a sure way to
destroy your document. It can destroy parts of your document that you are
not even working on! I think John McGhie said it succinctly when he said
that there are two kinds of Master Documents: Those that are corrupt and
those that will be corrupt soon. See <URL:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/WhyMasterDocsCorrupt.htm> for more
information on what goes wrong, and <URL:

how to salvage what you can.

The 'Remove Subdocument' Button on the master document toolbar is the
quickest way to do that.
