The Office 2008 for Mac Product Registration takes forever

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

After I reinstalled the OS system of my MacBook Pro, I reinstalled the Office 2008 for Mac by using the wrong product key (which has been used on another MacBook). So after couple times of using the Word, the notebook said I could not open the Word file again cause the registration has been used by another computer. Then, I started to uninstall the Office and then reinstall it again by following the mactopia instructions, of course, using the product key I first time applied on this MacBook Pro. However, when I tried to do the online registration, the process ran forever. What was happening? Will it hurt my documents or any of my files? Also, a message saying something like the data of the scrapbook cannot be obtained. What was going on? Anyone can kindly tell me what I should do now please? Thanks!

Hi,

you need to make a distinction here between the registration key and the
registration process. You cannot run two versions of any Office apps using
the same registration key on the same network simultaneously. The
registration key is used to activate your product and is therefore
necessary; the online registration process, however, is not. Registration
simply means you sign up for the Office for Mac newsletter; it is absolutely
not required to run Office and can be skipped unless you absolutely want to
receive the newsletter. This is one area in which the Mac version of Office
differs from the Windows version; you do not need to activate your product
online, and it will work regardless of whether it has been registered or
not.

Thanks, Michel. But it seems like the next problem still cannot be fixed. When I turn on the toolbox of the Word and click the scrapbook, there is a message saying 'the client cannot be shown because necessary support files cannot be found.' Then, ask me to reinstall the Office again. Should I reinstall it one more time?

Hi Christopher,

download the SP2 updater from Mactopia and see if you can apply it. If it
works, see if the problem has disappeared. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid
the best solution would be to remove Office and install it again. Once
you've done that, be sure to apply all the latest updates.

Missing support files are usually indicative of either a faulty installation
process or an incomplete update process.

I have the same problem, when online registering my office 2008, the process
in mactopia takes forever and never been done. i had try 3 times.

I understand that it wouldn't impact my office for mac. but, i need to
ensure all process had done smoothly. i feel comfort if this online
registration can be done.

We can't help here with website issues. If you feel it's necessary to sign
up for their email notifications, then you'll need to contact the website.
Good luck.

Go to the following Mactopia page & follow the instructions to sign up for
the monthly newsletter... It amounts to the same thing as "Registration":
