The path specified for the file outlook.ost is not valid message

Hello,

We are running SBS 2003. We just had a new user added to SBS with all its
associated attributes (home folders, email address, profile and etc).

The user does not have his own PC so he logs into any PC that are available
(roaming user). He can log onto a PC and launch his outlook sucessfully as
long as he has been added as local administrator of that PC. But when he logs
onto any other PC and launches Outlook 2003 on the same network then he keeps
getting the following message.

"The path specified for the file C\Documents and
Settings\edtudor.welbeckwealth.000\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost is not valid."

Any idea how I can resolve this problem.

are using roaming profiles.

if he's roaming, don't use cached mode - it's slower. I believe the error is
because that folder doesn't exist on the local machine and his account
doesn't have the right permissions to create it.

Another option is to place the OST file on a network drive for the particular
user and point the OST path in Outlook for this user to the network location.
Please note that OST files are normally used to access email when using a
laptop and you are not near the server. If it is placed on a network drive,
you would have to establish connectivity to it first (e.g. VPN) before you
could open your email.

True, but Microsoft does not support the use of PST and OST from a network
drive.

Why would you want to download a potentially huge ost each you log into a
computer? Use classic exchange mode instead. (Plus ost are not supported
across a network like that)
