The ruler does not extend to the width of the page.

My page setup and printer are both set to A4 where the paper is 21cm wide.
The ruler starts in the left margin at 0 then goes to 2 (ie the left margin
is set to 2cm) Then restarts at 0 and goes to 18??? but the ruler is
indicating about 20cm although there is at least another 4cm of page left
after the ruler end??? Any thoughts would be great. I have numerous images
text etc.

The white part of the ruler indicates the margin width. You should see dark
gray portions on the left and right to the edges of the paper in Print
Layout view; in Normal view, the ruler starts at the left margin.
