Error message:
The Windows user account or user name for the affected user account
conflicts with an existing account on the server (0x8C04000D)

When I am connected to the Allscripts central Project Server through my
local installation of MS Project 2003 and have the "XX Project Name"
published plan opened, I go to Collaborate --> Publish --> Republish
Assignments to republish this plan. I have "Show preview grouped by" set to
Resource and only "Overwrite actual work entered by resources" checked.
After I press OK and wait for the plan to republish, the Microsoft Office
Project Server Spooler comes back with the following error:

Message Type: Republish Assignments

Error:
The Windows user account or user name for the affected user account
conflicts with an existing account on the server (0x8C04000D)

Affected User Accounts: <Name listed>

Renee:

The error most likely indicates that you have a resource in the plan that
the system thinks is a local resource, but that resource already exists in
the server database. This can happen when resources aren't added to project
plans through the build team dialog, for instance. Open your project and
apply the resource sheet view. If you see a resource with the local resource
icon in the indicators column, you've found your problem. To correct it, you
can try a couple of things:

1) Use the Build team to replace the local with the enterprise resource
2) Remove the resource from all assignments, use build team to add the
resource to the team, and then reassign the tasks.

The resource (who is no longer with the company) is listed as an "Inactive
Enterprise Resource" in the Resource Sheet of the plan - so he is not a local
resource. Also, he is not assigned to any tasks.

I don't know how to do that. Should the project manager do it - or the system
administrator?

(BTW - I did purchase both of your books - waiting for them to arrive)

Renee:

Have the Project Manager open the project and go to Tools > Build Team from
Enterprise. In the dialog, select the user in the project and remove it from
the team.

The Project Manager response:

The application will not allow me to do that since he has actuals (completed
hours of work) in the plan.

Renee:

If the resource was deactivated correctly and it has no remaining work in
the project, then the error shouldn't occur. To diagnose this further, I'd
need to see what's going on. I think we've exceeded the limits of this
forum.

Renee:

One last thought: Was this resource deleted rather than deactivated?

Thanks for the "last thought"

The user was set to Inactive in the Resource Pool. The user was not deleted.

I have received your books and will see if I can learn what may have gone
wrong.

Have discovered that the user in question has two accounts (similar name
spelling) one of those accounts is not Windows Authenticated.

I have set both of the accounts back to Active and asked the Project Manager
to attempt to republish the project.

Not sure if it will work.

I will merge the two accounts next.
