thumbs.db

I have several occurrences of a file named thumbs.db on my web site. Do I
need these files or can they be deleted? If I delete them, how do I stop
them from being recreated?

Delete them also delete them in your local web.
Then don't open image folders inside your web using Windows Explorer.

There's a setting to prevent Windows Explorer from creating the thumbs.db but at
the moment I can't remember where it is.
