Timescale settings lost when zooming in and out

Is there any way to prevent the timescale from reverting to the default
setting when zooming in or out in a view? A workaround is to create multiple
views of the same data, but each with a different timescale setup, but that's
really not ideal.

How about a macro activated by a custom tool bar button?
