Timesheet reporting

Hi all,

We are currently using Asta's Teamplan though would like
to switch to Project if it offers the features we need:

Does Project allow a user to submit weekly timesheets
detailing their project progress.

if so,

Do the information from the user go straight back into
the project, therefore giving a clear indication of
project progress and also indicating a new finish date?

Many thanks,

Andy

Yes, Microsoft Project Server 2002 or 2003 allow users to submit weekly
timesheets detailing their project project on each task to which they are
assigned. The timesheet information is submitted to the project manager,
who then must approve or deny the updates. Once done, the project manager
can then update the task progress automatically into the project plan. If
the project manager is properly trained, he/she can apply a series of Tables
and Views to see project slippage against the original baseline of the
project. Hope this helps.

Many thanks Dale.

Do you know whether Project has the facilty on the
timesheet for a resource (user) to enter the ammount of
time there is to complete per task on a timesheet?
Meaning that a task length in a project can shorten or
lengthen depending on the feedback from the resource
(assuming the project manager approves the timesheet).

Thanks,

Andy

Project Server will not allow team members to adjust the Duration of the
task, but will allow them to adjust the Remaining Work value on a task.
Increasing the Remaining Work on a task will increase the Duration of the
task as well. For example, I am assigned to a task with 10 days Duration
and 40 hours of work at 50% Units. If I have performed 20 hours of work the
first week, I should have 20 hours of Remaining Work the second week.
However, if I increase the Remaining Work from 20 hours to 40 hours, this
will result in the Duration being increased from 10 days to 15 days. Hope
this helps.
