Toolbars appear when I select objects

Whenever I select an object in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Publisher, the
corrisponding toolbar appears right next to it. For example, if I click a
picture/clip art I inserted, the Picture toolbar will appear, and if I click
a WordArt, the WordArt toolbar will appear. Is there any way to force these
toolbars to stay hidden?

Click the X close box on the toolbar. It shouldn't return. When you want to
activate it again, chose it from the View | Toolbars menu.
