Toshiba Notebook and Powerpoint Problem

I have had problems with my Notebook connecting to an LCD
projector.
The image will not project on the screen and on the
laptop at the same time. Sometimes, I can get one or the
other. Last week I could not get the image on the screen
at all!!!!!!!!!!! What's that all about? I'm using a
Toshiba Satelite Notebook running Windows ME and Office
2000 PowerPoint.
