Tough question: How do I make a dot between two words for a graphiceffect in a page heading?

I am trying to have at the top of a page, in Modern 20 type, italics,
a word and a page number and in between a small dot centered where a
hypen would be, with some spaces separating the dot from the two
words. Using Word for Mac 2008.

Every Macintosh font has option-8 as a bullet. Try that.

Hello Nick,

You can type a bullet via Option-8. Its size can be changed after
selecting, as with any other character.

Additional to Clive's suggestion you might want to investigate the use of
the OS X Character Palette or the Insert> Symbol dialog in Word.

You aesthetic chap, you!

Reminds me of an argument I once overheard about whether particular periods
were italic or not... ;-)
