I am working with Word 2003. I am trying to delete some text with the Track
Changes ON. When I do so, columns in a different section of my document
reformat themselves to the format of the section following them. I believe
the section breaks are set up correctly, because when I turn Track Changes
OFF, the deletion works fine and the columns are not changed.

Is there a section break in the text you are deleting?

If there is, don't delete it. See if you can delete the text down to the
section break and then the text after it, leaving the section break in place.

I hope this helps.

Fred,
Thanks for responding. There are no section breaks in the text that I am
deleting, only a paragraph mark. Also, why should the process work when
Track Changes is OFF, but become a problem only when Track Changes is ON?

I have set up other test documents more basic than the document that I am
working on, and it seems to happen as well when there are section breaks.
