Transparent BlockQuote shading

I'm making a brochure with a graphic as a background. The cover contains a
blockquote with light gray shading, and this shading completely covers the
graphic. Is it possible to make the shading 50% transparent, so it is still
shaded, but the graphic is visible beneath? Thanks.

If the quote is in a text box, you can set the transparency of the text box
fill.
