Trouble installing MS office

M

MJ

Hi, hope you can help!

On my system running '98, I am trying to reinstall Office 97 (and then upgrade to 2000). I am a licensed user. When I install the original '97 disk, I get an error message: "configuration of the ODBC MS dbase driver failed"; consequently setup was not executed properly. I then tried uninstalling the program through the add/remove programs tool and tried to install again. Same error message came up.

I aniticpate that the problem is in the registry somewhere, right? Here's the low-down... just prior to this re-installation attempt, I had to restore my system files on this (somewhat) old system. I did not, however, uninstall Office prior to doing so. Again, I assume this has something to do with the error I am receiving. Can anyone help? PLEASE! I really need to get this system loaded properly. Any advice or assistance is most appreciated.

Hi M.J.,

It can be an issue with MS Data Access file version
incompatabilities or corruption. You may want to try
method 3 first in
