trouble with new software

I just purchased a copy of Project 2003 from Office Depot. I loaded it onto an Averatec laptop. Upon opening the installed program I receive an error message whichreads "Project could not open Global.MPT". I followed the recommendations to "repair" and also did a complete uninstall and reinstall, but the problem continues. Can anyone help?

Did the global.mpt file get put into place? Does it exist on the
computer (use "search" to look)? Are you installing with Admin
priviledges with permissions to writhe the global.mpt file?
