Trouble with scan and clipboard

Cannot get scanned or clipboarded items to open in Word. All I get is an outline, with no image
Using a Canon scanner, which work perfectly in PhotDraw. But I need to OCR documents into word, so that they can be saved correctly. Clipboard works in other programs they problem is purely in Word X
