troubleshooting messaging interface

I imported my Outlook Express address book to Outlook. It seems that I may
have done this twice. Now, I have duplicates in my address book. When I try
to delete the duplicates I get "messgaing interface" message and I am stuck
with all the duplicates.
Can anybody recommed a fix?
