Truncated data when merging from MS Excel

I have a 5 paragraphs of marketing copy per product in a
Excel spreadsheet to merge into various Word docs.

Column 1 - in English truncates the data after 255 chars
Columns 2-5 (various languages - generally longer than the
English) all mail merge in completely

I am baffled

Please help

So am I. Generally, Excel will always cut off at 255
characters.

Which version of Office to you have? Do you know what kind of
data connection you're using to link in the Excel data?

If you insert a new column before Column 1, above, and fill
it with nonsense entries, does that make any difference how
mail merge handles that data that is in the former Column 1?
