Two 'Contacts' Folders in Outlook 2003

E

Ed Fitzgerald

When I upgraded from Outlook XP, I ended up with 2 'Contacts' folders. One
has a normal entry and a set of subfolders I had previously established. The
other does not appear on the folder list but does show up when I send an
email and click "To..." and look in the "Show names from the:" drop-down
box. When I click this second 'Contacts' entry, I get a message box:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions. ..."

Is this a corrupt PST file entry or a bad registry entry? How do I remove
the reference to the extra folder?

Just remove the duplicate entry here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change.

If you don't see the OAB in the Directories and Address Books list, click
the Back button, then select "Add a new directory or address book", then
"Additional Address Books", and add the OAB. Then keep clicking Back until
you get back to the first dialog box, and go back to the Directories and
Address Books list as you did earlier. Once the OAB appears in the list,
select it and then click Change to make sure the Contacts folder(s) you want
to display are listed.
