typing text on a line

I am making a document whereas someone needs to type text
on a line (I have used the underscore to make line) and
want people to fill in the line. I DON'T want the line to
move any further and move text after it. Any ideas short
of going through the long process of using a table or
inserting a drop down box like fix?

Assuming you're not wedded to using an underscore -- try
an input frame:

Under the 'View/Toolbars', select the 'Forms' tool bar.
Click the Insert frame button and use it to draw an input
box instead of using the underscore line. Users can click
into the box and type away without changing anything.
