Unable to connect to SMTP

Abruptly I cannot send email. If I "Test Account Settings" I get the error message: "Outlook could not connect tot he outgoing mail server (SMTP)."

All e-mail settings are correct. I have the exact same settings on a desktop, and it works as expected.

I deleted the mail account, closed Outlook, re-created the email account, and it still does not work.

I am using Outlook 2003... [very frustrating since I did not do anything except backup my office 2003 setting and my pc; perhaps it is correlated with the settings backup??]

I am clueless what to do. Help welcomed!

Try creating a new mail profile under Control Panel->mail icon.

the SWEN virus, all mail sent to my personal account will be deleted
without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Steve asked:
