unable to display the folder in contacts

Recently I discovered that I can not access my contacts list. When i click on
Contacts i receive the msg: Unable to display the folder. The file
.....outlook.pst is in use and could not be accessed. Close any app that is
using this file and try again.

The weird thing is that the problem is only with my main contacts not a
second contact list i have. The rest of Outlook works fine. I have not done
anything such as reinstall, migrate... just out of blue as far as i know.

Actually i just remembered that a friend of mine installed active snyc for
his mobile phone so he could download some pics from his phone onto my
computer. Could it be that something from that messed up my contacts list?

More likely he messed up your profile.
Close Outlook.
Run the Inbox Repair Tool on your PST file.
Create a new profile.
