Unable to edit the downloaded templates. Why?

I am using a new computer. It's OS is XP and it came with a trial version of
Office 2003. When I download from Microsoft Office Template Gallery, I am
asked to updrade to the full version. After I hit cancel the download is
completed, the template can not be edited or saved.

I do not have the full version of Office 2003, I do have the full version of
Office XP Pro. Will I need to uninstall Office 2003?

New Computer,
You will need to either convert your trial version to full, purchase your
own retail copy of Office 2003, or install Office XP to edit and save
downloaded templates.
If you uninstall the trial version, remove it thru add/remove programs.
