Disable the anti-virus software, see if that helps.
Try opening the files in safe mode, if you can open the files, it maybe your printer
driver is at fault. Publisher saves all printer information with each file. Do these
files have a lot of graphics? Did you try opening a file with the picture display set
to none?
Copy a file to your new drive and try opening it.

Having same problem. I have Pub. 2000 SR-1, running Win XP-Pro. Hurricane
destroyed hd but were able to save old pub 98 files. Tried disabling script
blocking, office plug ins, disabling printer, opening in safe mode, hiding
pictures, any other ideas?

Can you zip them up and send them to me? I have broadband, so the size isn't
important.

Do you have Norton?

Install a different printer, maybe the LaserJet IIP, set as the default. (You
don't need the physical printer to install a driver) Will your publications
open? If you can open them then it probably means your printer driver has become
corrupt. Go to the manufacturer's web site and look around for an update. It is
always best to completely remove a printer driver before
installing/re-installing.

Are you using the same Operating System? Can you open the publications in safe
mode? If you can then it is a driver problem.
