Unable to open Word

My system had been working fine then I suddenly found I
couldn't open Word. When I try to the blue Microsoft Word
box appears then the system just 'hangs' and doesn't go
any further. I have done a virus scan, scan disk and disc
defrag to no avail. I also tried system restore and I also
went into system config facility and re-installed the
riched20.dll file which can cause problems. Still not
working - any ideas anyone?
