unable to select new message in outlook (button inactive)

Since this evening the button to create an new message in outlook has become
inactive as well as other functions for sending new messages / replying to
messages.

I am unsure whether I have been sent a virus that has disabled certain
functions.
Have run virus check but has shwn clear.

Is this a trial version? Did you purchase it? If not, did you activate
your Office version after installation?
