Unable to send E-mail

I am using Windows xp, Office 2003 with Norton Internet Security installed.
Able to send e-mail but unable to receive. Error message comes up
(0x800....B), the mail stays in the sent box and it seems that the computer
uses pop for both sending and receiving. Opera works fine with exactly the
same settings. Tryed removing Norton and reinstalling Office but it did not
help. Any thoughts?
