Uninstalling Office XP completely

D

Duff

Windows 2000 Pro w/SP 4
Office XP Pro w/SP3

I have run into a problem with my Outlook program in Office XP ever since I
installed the SP3. I do not have any add-in programs and the Outlook forum
has not yeilded any solutions to my problem. I am to the point of
reinstalling the Office program and starting from scratch.

The problem I have is uninstalling Office XP. I ran the ARP to remove
Office, restarted the computer (and actually did a shutdown too) and then
reinstalled the software. As soon as I open any of the programs I see my old
registration information (I used my full name and middle initial for the
latest install which is not showing up) and when I opened Outlook all my
messages were still there along with contacts etc and I still have the same
problem with the program. (the problem is a rule that permenately deletes
email from a particular address causes Outlook to stop responding and this
rule worked perfectly before the SP3 install)

I understand profile information is saved hence the messages and contacts
but why did the registration not change? When I check the "about" on any of
the programs they show "whatever" (SP3). This tends to make me thing there
is more than just profile info being saved on my system.

Any help or points in the right direction would be appreciated.

TIA,

Duff

Hi Duff,

I want to start by say that the reason you are still seeing all of you same
Office registration and Outlook info is that we leave it there by default.
This information is concidered User Data and is not deleted. This is to
protect your settings, files, customizations, etc. Uninstalling Office does
not touch any of YOUR settings.

There is some fairly easy steps to clean up your Outlook settings and leave
your email and such alone...and not have to go through an uninstall of the
product.

Outlook settings are stored in the registry. There are two locations where
these settings might be. Here are the registry keys.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<Outlook Profile Name>
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook

If there are no settings you are concerned about, you can safely delete the
'<Outlook Profile Name>' and the 'Outlook' keys. Relaunching Outlook will
take you through the Outlook wizard again and will rebuild these keys.

All other Office apps should remain untouched.
