unlock document

on my office 2003..l;m having trouble unlocking my document..down the bottom
it says.this modification is not allowd because the document is closed..l
went through the help.but just cant seem to unlock it to change
anything..thanks for anyhelp anyone can give me

I never heard of the "document being closed". Could you reply with the
actual message?

If this only happens with one particular document, try opening it and
clicking on Tools | Unprotect Document. If this happens with all new
and existing documents, then the likely causes are either because you
have not activated your Word/Office software, or because you have an
expired trial version of Office 2003. What happens if you start Word
and click on Help | Activate Product? If you are already activated, a
dialog box saying so will appear. If you are not activated, the
Activation Wizard will start. If you have an expired trial version, a
dialog box will prompt you to enter a valid product key or purchase a
key online.
